Joker came to us quite unexpectedly on October 18th 2019. Just a week before Joker came into our lives our beloved German wirehair pointer Sage was hit and killed by a car, she was only a year old. All of the time and effort my husband Quinn spent working with Sage, the countless hours training and hunting with her was all gone in a blink of an eye. The 2019 hunting season had just begun and we were devastated and heart broken at the loss of our sweet girl who was not only turning out to be an excellent hunting dog but was also such a huge part of our lives. We had lost a family member and we were in shock at the sudden change in our home, her absence was incredibly hard to cope with and we were reminded of her in every corner. As terrible as it was we had to do something, the thought of a hunting season without our Sage was almost too much for us to bear but we had to find another dog. The search began for a started dog and Quinn began calling breeders he knew including the one that we had gotten Sage from. Long story short Quinn was driving to Baker City Oregon to pick up an 8 month old male puppy a short 7 days after losing Sage. I wasn't sure about this new dog, he was the complete opposite of our small female. He had a longer coat, a blonde beard, and was quite a bit larger than Sage with kind soft eyes. He came with the name "Joker" and the name ultimately stuck. The day after Quinn brought Joker home we took him out to jump shoot ducks on our canal bank. I shot two ducks for Joker who quickly retrieved one of the ducks and in great haste ran past me to deliver the mallard straight to Quinn. We both laughed out loud, and i realized that this dog was going to heal our hearts whether we liked it or not. (Pictured below: Sage and Quinn, Joker is pictured above.)
